Junior Lightning Entry Form 2011
This is a Hasler qualifying event for the West Midlands Region. The race will be held in accordance with B.C.U. Marathon racing rules. ALL PADDLERS MUST DECLARE THEIR SINGLES RANKING WHEN PADDLING DOUBLES.
VENUE: Leamington Spa Canoe Club, Adelaide Road (A452), Leamington Spa.
Check in, refreshments, results, prize giving at Canoe Club.
PARKING: Parking at canoe club, carry boats to other side of river for entry and exit. No boats allowed through clubhouse. All paddlers will enter water opposite RLSCC club house.

10.30 – 10.45 Briefing – Div 1 - 9 RLS Canoe Club
10.45 – 11.15 Launching Div 1 - 9 far side of river to RLSCC
Div 7 – 9 form start lines opp. the club, starts at 30 sec intervals.
Div 1 – 6 paddle downstream, portage weir, paddle to Leam / Avon junction start line. This will take approx 20 mins to paddle.

COURSES: All paddlers will enter water opposite RLS clubhouse.
NOTE. There will NOT be a K2, Div 1,2 or 3 event. In the event of Div 1,2,3 K2 crews wishing to race then according to marathon rules they will be permitted to race on amalgamation with lower division K2 races.

HAZARDS: For Div 1 – 6 care needs to be taken when portaging the weir as it may be slippy. Care should be taken around rowers and other river users. Div 7 – 9 should beware of oncoming paddlers and keep to the right of the river, as the Leam is relatively narrow.
NUMBERING: All racing kayaks and canoes should be fitted with yellow number plate to the rear, size 200mm x 150mm and locked in position, with number clearly displayed.
SAFETY: All paddlers in Divisions 7 to 9 and Lightnings must wear approved life jackets or buoyancy aids. Team leaders to decide if paddlers in higher divisions should wear them.
REFRESHMENTS: A hot or cold drink and chocolate biscuit will be provided for all competitors after the Race and other refreshments will also be on sale for paddlers and spectators in the club house
RULES: The race will be run in accordance with the current BCU Marathon Rules. Division 1 - 9 competitors must be Comprehensive BCU/Canoe England/WCA/SCA/CANI members, or members of the Junior Section of a BCU Affiliated Club. A current BCU or Junior Section Card must be shown at check-in. Paddlers ranked in Div 1 - 6 without proof of membership will not be permitted to race. Paddlers ranked in Div 7 - 9 without proof of membership may purchase an event ticket, for insurance purposes.
NOTE: RLS Canoe Club reserves the right, without prior notice, to alter any of these arrangements should the weather or other circumstances warrant it.
